Pear Download

Privacy policy

Last updated 31 July 2026

Pear has no accounts, no analytics and no server of ours to send anything to. This policy lists what is stored on your Mac, and the only two connections the app makes.

1. What Pear stores, and where

All of it is in your own user folder, readable and deletable by you.

Screenshots
Saved to the folder you choose. Captures you have not saved are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/PearCompanion/Captures for seven days, then deleted.
Recognised text, QR contents, colour swatches
Produced on your Mac by Apple's Vision framework, kept only as long as the preview card that owns them.
Clipboard history, scratchpad notes, shelf items
Stored in ~/Library/Application Support/PearCompanion.
Settings
Standard macOS preferences for this app.
Your licence
A signed file containing the email address you bought with. Verified on your Mac.

None of it is read, indexed or transmitted by Pear.

2. Network connections

The app makes two, and no others.

  1. Update checks. Pear asks GitHub whether a newer version exists. GitHub sees your IP address, as it would for any web request. No identifier of ours is attached.
  2. The optional background-removal model. If you turn on High-quality mode, Pear downloads a machine-learning model of about 195 MB from our GitHub release page, once. It then runs entirely on your Mac. If you leave that setting off, this never happens.

Licences are not checked over the network. Pear works with no internet connection at all.

3. System permissions

macOS asks you for these. Each is used locally by the tool that needs it, and nothing captured is transmitted.

Screen Recording
Screenshots and window previews.
Accessibility
Moving windows, reading menu shortcuts, arranging menu-bar items.
Files and folders
Saving screenshots where you asked, and reading disk usage.
Notifications
Telling you a capture or scan finished. Notification text never includes the contents of what was scanned.

4. Purchases and support

Purchases are handled by Paddle.com, the Merchant of Record. Paddle receives your name, email address, billing country and payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store card details.

From Paddle we receive your email address, order reference and country, so that we can issue your licence and handle refunds and support. We keep those records for as long as accounting requires. We do not sell or rent them, and we do not send marketing you did not ask for.

If you write to support, we hold your email address and the contents of your message.

5. Your rights

Because the app collects nothing, a data request concerns only your purchase record, held by us and by Paddle. Write to contact@phanthawas.dev and we will confirm, correct, export or delete what we hold, subject to accounting obligations. In the EEA and the UK this includes your rights under the GDPR; in California, your rights under the CCPA.

Pear is not directed at children.

6. Changes

Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes. The date at the top of this page reflects the current version.

7. Contact

Pear is operated by Phanthawas Jirakiattikun, Bangkok, Thailand.
